Magician Help Topics do not work with
Vista
Symptom #1
Clicking on the Help icon or picking Help Topics through the Help menu gives you
a "Failed to launch help" error message. This happens because Microsoft
does not support the WinHlp32.exe Help program in Vista.
Solution
-
Go to
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607 to read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 917607.
- Click the link under "Download WinHlp32.exe
for Windows Vista.
- If required, click the Continue button next to "Validation Required" to begin the Windows validation process.
- Scroll down to the "Files to download" and click the download
button for
Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu.
- Click Open and walk yourself through the installation.
- Follow the instructions for enabling macros in Symptom #2.
Symptom #2
When selecting a help topic, you get an error
"There was a problem in running the macro." This tells you that macros
are disabled and need to be enabled.
Note:
This solution requires you to log in as an administrator on the computer and involves
editing the registry so, if you do not have permissions to do so or do not feel
comfortable doing this, contact your IT department.
